Who will own the metaverse?

What do you think is the most important point?

AR seemed like something from a science fiction movie but now is the time for it to become reality. We have what we need to do it, we just have to keep working to get there.

What did you find challenging, puzzling or difficult to understand?

This article talked so much about different programs that I have never heard before it was kind of hard to follow what it was trying to tell me.

What is something you found interesting?

I find it interesting that companies are already creating things such as detailed maps of the world around an individual. That would be so much detail and its wild that it is actually happening.

Key Ideas

There are many aspects like tools for discovery that have not happened yet. This will emerge at somepoint in the future, but it is too early now.

The goal is for AR to be connected through different networks just like using the internet.

AR Cloud

What do you think is the most important point?

The AR cloud will be a realtime 3D (or spatial) map of the world. The AR Cloud is a shared memory of the physical world and will enable users to have shared experiences, not just shared videos or messages. It will allow people to collaborate in play, design, study, or team-up to problem solve — anything in the real world.

What did you find challenging, puzzling or difficult to understand?

I just basically dont understand how it would be possible to make an AR cloud work. I’m not an engineer so thats fine, but I am excited to see if anyone can pull it off in the future.

What is something you found interesting?

I think it is interesting that they would have to align the cloud wth real world coordintes. Doing that will really make it feel like you are in a whole new world.

Key Ideas

Creating an AR cloud can be a huge security risk because this would include it mapping personal spaces such as the users home. This is important because many users may feel uncomfortable about this.

The reason we want the AR cloud is to have shared virtual experiences with other people. Multi user engagement is the main part of the AR Cloud.

Magicverse

What do you think is the most important point?

The Magicverse brings the digital together with a physical community of people, to create a creative way for humans to live their lives, and bring the community together.

What did you find challenging, puzzling or difficult to understand?

It just almost seems like too perfect of a plan. Many communities already struggle with many different aspects and in this article it doesn’t explain how the Magicverse is going to make things better, just that it will.

What is something you found interesting?

The idea that spacial computing can create a stronger reach, presence and economic strench of an actual community, beyound its own geography. That is something I have never thought about before. How AR could help communities in our country.

Key Ideas

One of the important things the Magicverse is focusing on is repsecting fundamental human rights. They want to keep that in focus that the people who are apart of the magicverse have freedom, privacy, health, diversity and inclusion.

Magic leap is partnering with different groups all around the world. They will be releasing new tools and pathways with spacial computing, to one day get to the Magicverse.

Mirror world

What do you think is the most important point?

A mirror world is a virtual reality that is a complete copy of the real world. From this things can be added to the virtual real world.

What did you find challenging, puzzling or difficult to understand?

Nothing in this article!

What is something you found interesting?

I think its super intersting that one day we wll be able to “google” a place like we can with text. That would be a very fun way to explore.

Key Ideas

The mirror world will not just be a 2d image hindged together like google earth, all of the virtual thiings will have volume, and a function just like the real world.

Cameras would be used to create the map for the mirror world. It must take pictures of all the things and walls in your surroundings from every possible angle.

Cyberverse

What do you think is the most important point?

Cyberverse is a technology that combines with virtual world with relality. It connects users with the space and data around them using spacital computing.

What did you find challenging, puzzling or difficult to understand?

Nothing in this article.

What is something you found interesting?

It says that they planned to have this in public places by the end of 2019, which surprsed me. I didn’t know anything like this was already out there being tested by regulat people.

Key Ideas

Using a 3D ultra high definition map, ultra-realistic immersive rendering, and the 5G architecture that new phones have, the virtual world mixed with reality will have a more realistic and vivid display.

The cyberverse using learning techniques to analyze geographical information, which gives the phone capablity to identify the physical environment around the user.

Planet-scale AR

What do you think is the most important point?

Planet-scale AR is a global operating system for different applications to merge the digital world with the physical world.

What did you find challenging, puzzling or difficult to understand?

Nothing

What is something you found interesting?

I like that one of their main focuses is to get the user out in the world and moving. Obviously that is what you can do with planet-scale AR, but it is refreshing to see they want it to be more healthy than regular video games.

Key Ideas

This creates more of a sense of community because you are out in the real world exploring public places like parks and historical sites. It brings people together.

Maps are often used because you are out in the world exploring the public more than just being at home.

What are the broader implications of the metaverse and ownership of virtual space/objects?

One thing that is always controversial is the amount of time people are on their phones or electronics. I think that as the technologies of VR get better, the more conversations are going to have to happen with how we balance the new lives we can have. We could also become too reliant on the digital world and everything it gives us. People are creating it to help ease our lives, so they are trying to sell it as a good thing. But what if one day we are unable to use it, and we do not know how to live without it.

What do you think would be some effects of the extreme implementation of these AR technologies. (emotional, physical, and/or mental)

I think some of these AR technologies could make people isolate themselves. While they will have the option to be around people, some might chose to be alone as they explore the virtual world or get caught up with virtual beings. It would be very easy to get caught up in stuff that is not real, and ignore the normal things that people need to do.
